A Journey You Will Remember: Strategy of Choice and Vision

Your Strategic Journey

No one under the sun is more knowledgeable about yourself than you; or cares more about your future than you. So it stands to reason, there is no person more qualified to direct your destiny than you.

Fact is, you are the captain of your own destiny. The choices and decisions that you make on a day-to-day basis determines where you end up; just as the left and right turns of a sailboat determines where it ends up.

So, figuratively speaking, in order to get where you want to go in life, you must learn how to hoist the sails and capture the wind before you can begin to move. Then you must learn to pivot the sails and maneuver the rudder in order to steer in the direction you wish.

"But wait...", you say. "I can just charter a captain and his craft, then I don't have to learn how to hoist, pivot or steer. All I have to do is tell him where I want to go!"

That's true if you're going to The Bahamas, but this is your life and where you're going, no one has ever been.

On top of that, everyone else is sailing towards their own destination, just like you. So, if you get on someone else's ship, you'll probably end up at their destination. Don't get me wrong, people do that all the time. They let someone else determine where they go in life.

Is that what you want out of life? Of course not. That's why you've read this far. You realize that you are responsible for where you end up in life; you're not going to allow yourself to be a passenger on the ship of life. You're going to take the helm and be your own captain.

Now, I'm not advising you to give up your friends and family, and be a lone sailor on the dark, gray sea of life. In fact, you'll need a good crew to accomplish all that you're going to do in life. And sometimes it is good to go aboard someone else's ship to see how they navigate the waters of life or pull into port for a little Rest & Relaxation. But, on a day-to-day basis, you must be tending to your own ship and mothering your own voyage.

You must become a master navigator, a magnificent map-reader, a tremendous sail-maker and a crafty hole-patcher (in case you spring a leak). These are the essentials to get your sailboat to it's destination. You learn this, not because you must perform all these tasks, but because you must make sure that others are performing correctly.

So too in life; you must tend to your own matters on a day-to-day basis. You must learn the essentials you need to make it to your destination. You must make sure that all of the necessities are in place -- working together to fulfill your mission.

Before we dive into setting and achieving goals, let’s talk about your "Big Picture"; Your Life’s Mission.

It’s okay if you don't really know what your life’s mission is right now. We're going to devote the next few articles to the subject, and this will help you examine the possibilities and proceed with enthusiasm.

Where Are You Going?

You shouldn't sail out of port not knowing where you are going. Before you leave, you must gather the proper charts, supplies and crew for the trip.

The same goes for your life. You need to figure out where you are going before you can go there. You'll need to gather the resources, strategies, techniques and tools to get you to your destination.

You could haphazardly wander through life and end up somewhere great. Just as you could haphazardly set sail without charts or experienced crew, and end up in paradise. But tell me, how likely do you feel this will happen? Not very likely, is it?

Where are you going? If you're not sure yet, that's okay. Before you set off on your journey, you will need to know, but for now you should understand that wherever you decide to go, you have to get there from where you are right now. And no matter the destination you choose, you have the option of changing your mind later (should new knowledge present itself).

Every great accomplishment was achieved by someone who started where you are right now. In fact, you probably have many advantages over most of the great achievers of days gone by. After all, you have access to a computer to read this article. Alexander Graham Bell, Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Edison never had such a luxury.

One thing these gentlemen did have was vision. Their vision coupled with their desire to achieve their life's mission, led them to greatness.  Vision is the common element in all achievement -- good or bad (even Hitler had tremendous amounts of vision).

The Bible says it simply, "Where there is no vision, the people perish." (Proverbs 29:18) It's true. And once you develop your vision and find your mission in life, you too will achieve great things. All you need is desire - fervent desire - and anything is possible.

Begin your journey now by determining your life's mission and planning your strategy to fulfill it. We make available to all our subscribers, a copy of Your Life's Mission Planning Guide. Download your free copy, and began to reap the rewards of pursing your life's mission.
